Zombie/Hurricane Bug-Out bag.

After living through two hurricane's here in the Houston area and my ever growing concern about the zombie apocalypse (swine flu?!) I've decided I'm going to create a personal bug-out bag and a longer term home kit. To those who may not be familiar with a bug-out bag, it's basically a 72hr emergency kit that is already prepackaged and packed and ready to be taken in case of an emergency. If everyone who has been affected by hurricanes here in the south had one at the ready it would give emergency personnel enough time to secure help. The Department of Homeland Security also advises a similar type pack for any emergency. The Bug-Out bag that follows is my idea of a 72hr kit that you should be able to survive just about anywhere for a few days until you can get help or just 'outta dodge without affecting mobility. Feel free to drop any comments about something you might change or something I may have forgotten. Please note that this particular kit has been designed for one person who is going to be either in a car or on foot so mobility isn't affected. If you are planning on departing with a loved one or children please plan accordingly. There will be another blog post at a later date with my plans for a longer term kit.

72 hr Bug Out Kit/Mobilize Kit[For one person]
Defense (The best defense is a good offense)
.22 Handgun + additional ammo (Optional but suggested, people get particularly shady during high stress situations)
.12g Shotgun+Ammo (Optional but highly suggested when dealing with zombies)

Food/Water
3 MREs (Military Grade with Flameless Ration Heater are best)
Pepsi-Can Stove+Denatured Alcohol (Optional ultralight cooking alternative if MREs aren't your thing)
Waterbottle
Water Purification Tablets

Silverware
Powerbar type bars (High energy snacks between MREs, may also consider things like granola or fruit snacks)
Misc.
$50 Cash (Small bills and quarters)
Phonecards (Optional, depends on where you're headed and if you have access to payphones and if they're in working order at all)
LED Mag-lite+Extra Batteries
Knife Sharpener
Film Canisters filled with dryer lint (Excellent tinder for starting a fire)
Bivy Sack (Small one man tent, will protect from the elements better than sleeping on the ground)
Sleeping Bag

Watertight Container (For legal documents such as identification, insurance, etc.)

Ziplocks
AM/FM Crank Radio

Things i'm excited about

I thought I might start this off with a few things that I'm looking forward to. A few of these are tech and movie related but some of them are just personal things.
American McGee's Alice 2-I loved the first one and am looking forward to some much nicer graphics as the technology has come a long way since 2000. The storyline of the original was nice, and at the time the graphics were good but by the time the next one (if it gets released) the graphics should be downright frightening.
American McGee's Alice (Movie)-Now I've always loved the Alice and Wonderland related things and another movie might be good but typically movies based on video games are awful.
Continuing on the Alice in Wonderland theme, Tim Burton is currently in filming of his rendition of Alice in Wonderland that should be in theaters by March of 2010. If you can't wait that long for your next Tim Burton flick, 9 looks like it should be coming out around September of this year.
It seems remakes of children's classics are the thing to do now as Where the Wild Things Are is also going to be released in October of this year as well. It's going to be in live action so it should be interesting to see how this movie pans out.
Further development of Quake Live. It's really just about good 'ole n00b fraggin.
Some of you may know how obsessed enthusiastic I am about my T-Mobile Android powered G1. Rumor is that the famed "Cupcake" update should be rolling out in April. I've been given several release dates that have all come and gone with no update but this time, it's been confirmed by a T-Mobile employee.
Finally, one of my new favorite themes/icon sets that I recently discovered is called BUUF that's been designed and given away under Creative Commons by Mattahan.

On a more personal level I'm getting married this summer and will be heading on a family cruise for our honeymoon shortly thereafter. I'm also planning to take the national pharmacy technician exam sometime in early April. I would also just like to say that I'm excited about getting this blog together.
